Las Vegas | New York

Las Vegas | New York

While in Las Vegas for the best man’s bachelor party, we frequented the New York-New York hotel and casino a few times — mainly because it was next to our own hotel, the MGM. Perusing the aisles of a hotel made to look like the city I once called home felt, nostalgic.

While anyone without an inclination to suspending their disbelief would recognize the American colonial architecture as nothing more than a facade, I simply could not help myself but to achieve a close aesthetic distance. I was instantly transported to the streets of another life.

I smiled at the exposed brick, the fire escape ladders, and the multitude of apartments above restaurants that extend their outdoor seating into the crowded sidewalks. It was nice to be back for an instant. Except that I wasn’t, of course, for there is only one New York — only one living, breathing, conniving, New York. Even then, the similarities were remarkable, so I took some pictures to compare them to those from my time back east.

Tell me, what do you think? Do you see the similarities? Have you ever been to either of these places?

Sports Photography at the Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival

Sports Photography at the Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival

After what was supposed to be a 45 minute drive, which turned into a 2 hour LA traffic experience (part of the not-so-unusual reality of living in Los Angeles), I arrived at Long Beach’s Dragon Boat Festival. Personally, I had never even heard of the sport until I joined my startup and my manager mentioned it. It turns out that not only does she practice it, she competes at an international level! As such, when she mentioned that she would be competing over the weekend, I felt privileged to attend the event and show my support!

As an added bonus, I was able to test my sports photography skills. Spoiler alert: I have a long road ahead of me before I can add these on my resume. That said, it was a good learning experience! A few of the things I learned: 1) Bring a telephoto zoom lens with you, 2) If possible, make use of a tripod, and 3) You have to be fast! I look forward to the next opportunity to fine-tune these skills. On the bright side, I made a friend (pictured above). I named him, Leslie.

Tell me, are you familiar with Dragon Boat racing? How are your sports photography skills? What do you think Leslie is thinking about?

California Poppy Super Bloom

California Poppy Super Bloom

A little late to the game, but the wife and I did get a chance to visit the poppy flowers reserves to witness this year’s California super bloom. California’s state flower since 1903, the poppy is a beautiful, bright, orange flower that blooms from early to late spring. Usually there are only a few and not that many people frequent them. This year however, it rain incessantly for weeks, yielding the subsequent super bloom that attracted numerous crowds.

After reading about it on the news and talking to friends who had made the trip, we were excited to witness the phenomenon! To my disbelief, my coworkers did not exaggerate in describing it as miles upon miles of poppies! It was truly a sight to behold, and one that I am glad I was able to convince the wife to drive over an hour to see for ourselves.

Tell me, have you ever seen a poppy flower? Did you get a chance to see the super bloom this year? Do these grow where you live?

Wedding Pictures Preview

Wedding Pictures Preview

With the wedding behind us, we must now wait up to four more weeks to receive our pictures and video — and we can’t wait! As such, it occurred to us to look up our photographer to see if they had uploaded any pictures, and we were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves on their website! In fact, we are on their Yelp, Wedding Wire, and The Knot pages! We still cannot wait to see the rest of our pictures (and video), but at least now we have a few to enjoy until then.

Tell me, isn’t my wife stunning? Seriously, have you ever seen a more beautiful sight? Ok, sorry, I just love her so much! Let’s try that again. Tell me, what are your plans for the weekend?

Hollywood Hills

Hollywood Hills

Today’s photograph of Los Angeles’ Hollywood Hills (and the 101) is brought to you by Mrs. Ramdolfi. It was actually a last minute occurrence. We suddenly realized that we were driving through a fantastic vantage point, and simply had to stop the car to take a picture — it’s ok, there weren’t any cars behind us.

A stunning wife photographing Los Angeles

The wife quickly jumped out of the car, and with her DSLR in hand, she took a brief moment to compose the perfect shot. Naturally, I took advantage of the situation to capture the most beautiful sight in all of Los Angeles, her.

Satisfied with her capture, she hopped back in the car right on time to resume traffic before other vehicles could approach us. It is moments like this one that make me appreciate the green grass in our own backyard.

Tell me, do you ever take a moment to appreciate the beauty in your own neighborhood?

At Last, The Wedding Vows

At Last, The Wedding Vows

If you’re reading this, I have just spoken the following vows to my wife.

Over a decade ago I walked into a youth group for the first time. That Wednesday night God introduced me to the most amazing girl I would ever meet. The type that you never forget, no matter the time, or distance. That night was the first step in the journey that would bring us to this very moment, and what a journey it has been.

I will not narrate every chapter of our story, mainly because I was told I only had 5 minutes, tops. I will however highlight, that you were always the first I would visit on my random unsolicited drives to friends’ houses in high school. You were always the first I would invite to every one of my fraternity’s date events during college. And you were always the first I would talk about with my friends in New York. You were always there, even when you weren’t. I am privileged to call you my friend, let alone my best friend.

Before today I sincerely believed people said I married my best friend because it sounded sweet. I mean up until you, each of these men had held that title. I must admit that asking a friend out was a foreign concept to me, which only made that night at Royce Hall all the more daunting. But for some unexplainable reason you said yes, twice. To say that I am blessed would be an understatement of unprecedented proportions.

But for once, enough about me. Love, you are, everything. You are loving, faithful, and kind. You are selfless, the likes of which I have only read in the Bible. You are caring, compassionate, and empathetic. You always put others before yourself, and you are the first to offer a helping hand, even when it’s inconvenient, specially when it’s inconvenient. You are intelligent, stunning, and much, much more than I have time to share. You are unlike anyone I have ever met. You are the love of my life.

Today, I vow to put you before myself. Hold and cherish, sickness and health, I vow to love you with the full force of my relentless narcissism. To do everything I can to make you as happy as you make me. To be the man that you deserve, and the one you need. To support, encourage, and inspire you. To be your partner, til death do us part. I pray that God gives me the wisdom to be the best husband, for who I already know will be the best wife.

Love, I have never been accused of lacking confidence, and as such I can say, I have never been more confident about anything else in my life, than us. I am thankful for the past 11 years of friendship and I look forward to a lifetime of marriage. I look forward to all of it! From building a family and growing old together, to sharing my shirts with you, spending 30 minutes to an hour recreating that scene from the Notebook every time I ask you what you want for dinner, and getting up to open the window, even though I had just gotten comfortable.

In all seriousness, I look forward to the adventure of a lifetime with you by my side, as one, under God. I love you, Mrs. Ramdolfi.
